The Amazon rainfall project for February
The rainfall map that has been supplied to FMBR indicates that the goal of approximately 170 mm of rainfall across the Amazon Basin was effective. Amazon rainforest needs about 80 inches (approx. 2,000 mm) of rainfall per year. Enclosed are reports of the links between Amazon rainforest drought and hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin.
Some models suggest the Amazon rainforest will be consumed by mega fires due to climate change, leaving the Amazon Basin a savannah. Some areas of the rainforest, that have been heavily logged, will flood and cause mudslides with large loss of life among humans and livestock. Our theory of Language to Nature cannot change or directly manipulate weather. I do not know the outcome of my prayers for the future of the Amazon rainforest, but I hope to see the rainforest thrive well into our childrens’ lives. Complicated, complex, chaotic weather systems and climate are controlled by Mother Nature herself, and climate change is an unknown force that may change the Amazon rainforest forever. Heavy timber logging by humans will only hasten the Amazon Rainforest’s demise.

The Coming Atlantic Hurricane Season for 2007:*
The early forecasts are suggesting that due to La Nina’s demise in the Pacific, the U.S. and the Atlantic are heading for a stronger hurricane season than normal. Forecasters are expecting a much more active hurricane season than the mild season of 2006.
The Cost of Current Hurricane Trends:
The 2005 hurricane season caused severe damage to the United States. Hurricane Katrina caused nearly $200 billion in damages. (Boston Review, Jan/Feb. 2007, “Phaeton’s Reins” by Kerry Emanuel) I cannot imagine if Hurricane Katrina had come to New Orleans as a Category 5 storm what the potential damage could have been. The future trend of hurricane seasons may cost up to one trillion dollars in damage if major U.S. cities are impacted. If this progression continues, massive costs in lives and property can be expected.
